The Elder tasks John with assassinating Winston (Ian McShane), the manager of the New York Continental, in exchange for being reinstated into the organization. John agrees and heads back to New York, only to discover that things are not as they seem.
The final showdown between John and the High Table takes place at the Continental, where John learns that Winston has been working with the High Table all along. In a stunning turn of events, Winston shoots John off the roof of the building, seemingly killing him. However, the film ends with John being rescued by the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), setting up the possibility of another installment in the franchise.
